Work

After a while i feel like writing again. But i am not sure what to write as life is full of issues and i am not a person who keeps a diary. Problems may come and go. All you can do is sit back and enjoy your TV.

Now am focusing on passing my Land Law exam due in May. Passing rate is always low as to limit people to get into surveying profession. One is to maintain the standard of the profession and the second one is to maintain distribution of income among professional surveyors. The lesser surveyors the bigger the portion of jobs you would get. A cake that you do not want to share with many people. So far this profession remains unpopular among others. Hardly you hear people want to be land surveyor. At most you will hear people want to be quantity surveyor which is a world apart from land surveyor.

This is what i am doing now:

Happy New Year

Happy New Year and best wishes for 2009. On another note i would like to express my deepest sympathy to suffering people in Gaza. As one little human being who has conscience, I could not comprehend how the killing of 390 lives including women and children justifies the rocket attacks which as far as I am concerned only killed 4 people after recent ceasefire ended. But still if you read Have Your Say in BBC, people only blaming the Hamas deviating from the real issue here which is the killing of innocent lives. Lacking of historical knowledge about the conflict for that tiny peace of land is overwhelmed among of the westerners. The notion is always that Palestinians are the troublemakers or the terrorists. What about the occupation, oppression and subjugation in their own lands. To them Hamas is the freedom fighter and perceived as terrorist by the West. War for Jerusalem so called Holy Land happened around 1 thousand years ago in the time of Saladin vs. Richard the Lionheart and it still happens today only in different storyline. Maybe we have to wait for another Saladin before peace can be restored. Only time can heal the problem there.

PAL SHIPPING : Inefficiency at its best

Choosing the right shipping agent is more or less the rite of passage for everyone who is going back for good to Malaysia. I was once been there only that I made a wrong choice. The service was very shambolic and very disappointing. After 4 months of waiting, I only received 2 boxes out of 5 boxes. The sign of inefficiency was very obvious on the day of collection when expected collection at 7 pm was materialized at 1 am. It totally ruined the night because the collector could not give estimated time to arrive of which I can use that massive gap to go out with friends. I thought this unlucky event was one-off and everything will turn out ok after this. Back in Malaysia, I only received 2 boxes. I could not believe how inefficient and inept this so called ‘international’ shipping agent from Malaysia. Maybe I was buying that professional looking website of theirs. That is very superficial, the truth is this company is not worth considering even to send your ‘kuih-muih’ to you next door neighbour. After a long wait not a single call or email telling any news about my 3 other boxes. I was the one who took all the trouble to email and call yet to no avail in solving this issue. Until now not a single word of apology despite the delivery was late by two months. In reflection, I had made the wrong choice and the company is sick. So my Malaysian friends in UK avoid this company at all costs. What a shamble!

Company name: everyone repeat after me please..PAL SHIPPING ‘International’ Ltd.

And last but not least the greatest website of all : http://www.palshipping.com/

Life

Pace of life in a small city is relatively slow as compared to the larger ones. On the bright side you always appear relaxed and calm. But the downside is comfort zone which keeps your progress in life or maybe career at the lowest gear. Not good at all for a young graduate like myself. I can only wish for some changes in something for the better.Life is stagnant at the moment.

Week in a glance

1. So much noise about signboard in many languages in Penang and Bumi's NEP equity. This whole stuffs reminded me of Prof Khoo Kay Kim press statement, "Kita harus memujuk bukan menuntut.Menuntut mungkin tak dapat tetapi memujuk lambat laun akan dapat juga".

2. Newsweek on Sarah Palin, "She beat Biden by not imploding. But governing requires knowledge, not mindless populism". Spot on. Something we have to ponder upon in choosing our leaders for the next election in Malaysia.Popularity alone does not prove a person's competency.

3. Minyak turun 15 sen!Thank you.

4. Great recession is looming ahead. Global share prices sharp fall is perceived as the epitome of 1929 Great Depression. Nevertheless politic arena seemed to take the center stage in Malaysia when global economy situation almost caused Iceland goes bankrupt. For the record, Iceland is the 4th most productive country with GDP around 50000 USD. That is the fact of Malaysia, her people more interested in loitering at 'kedai kopi' hoping to solve 'national issues'.What a productive way of living. Then they will get angry when somebody questioned their '30%'

5. Reminder to all overstayed Malaysians in UK to comeback before you are black listed or worse to be deported.New UK VISA regulations are to be enforced starting next year. My student visa expired yesterday but i am home since August. I would love to go back to UK probably to do Master's. We'll see.

6. Have a nice week ahead!
